In the fall of 2013 Susan Rich (poet) and Carol Sawyer decided to undertake a collaboration. Having never met in person, they didn’t know then what form it might take, or what types of things they would create together. The previous summer they had begun a correspondence about the 19th century photographer Hannah Maynard, who Susan was researching at the time. The poems and photographs for this project grew out of their conversations and responses to each other’s work. In the fall of 2014, Susan travelled to Carol’s home in Vancouver B.C., and they collaborated on creating the still life, “Carol and Susan Consider Various Objects Left Behind by Carol’s Father (Still Life with Mirrored Globe)”, and referred to in Susan’s poem “Your Still Life Builds A Home Inside My Head”.
The collaboration is still underway, and both Carol and Susan look forward to the continued conversation.
